Concrete bases and footings for canopies

The solution to a problem: a concrete base for photovoltaic roofs

In 2010, one of our clients, specializing in photovoltaic systems, developed the idea of creating covered parking areas for cars using photovoltaic panels as roofing.

The project was feasible, but it presented several construction and regulatory challenges.

Through close collaboration between the client and our technical department, we developed a reinforced concrete base designed to be:

  • Properly dimensioned for its intended function
  • Prepared for the anchoring of the upper structure supporting the solar panels (this means that once the element is installed, it is sufficient to bolt the standard steel structure on top, without the need for drilling or additional work)
  • Prepared for the connection of electrical cables (this means that PVC ducts are integrated within the element to allow the passage of electrical cables up to the solar panels, eliminating the need for further work after installation)

In projects of this kind, a common issue is the irregularity and variability of the ground on which the structure rests, often requiring excavation or other work to make the surface uniform.

During the design phase, we equipped our product with a system that allows it to be installed anywhere, even on uneven terrain, without affecting the existing surface. This results in a significant advantage, both from an economic and a regulatory standpoint, as the finished structure is simply placed on the ground.

After analyzing all these parameters, we developed our prototypes, allowing our client to build the first structure. The client was so satisfied with the result that they decided to patent the system used.

We are also working on producing additional prototypes for the same application, but with different dimensional characteristics.
